Arrest History in Collin County
Collin County arrests may begin with the Sheriff's Office, a city police department, a constable, Texas DPS, or another agency with arrest authority. The creating agency keeps its incident and arrest report. If the person is booked into the Collin County Detention Facility, the sheriff keeps the booking and custody record. A court file appears only if a prosecutor files a charge. DPS receives fingerprint-linked arrest data and later disposition reports for qualifying events.
Those records are related, not interchangeable. An arrest report explains the initial event and probable cause. A booking entry describes intake, charge, bond, custody, and release. The Collin County criminal court case shows what was filed and how it ended. The public DPS name product is a statewide conviction and deferred-adjudication search, not a complete local arrest archive. A search should therefore begin with the event, custodian, and time period.
Four Collin County Arrest Records
A single arrest can produce four distinct records. The arresting agency writes the report. The detention facility records the booking when county intake occurs. The proper clerk opens a court file after prosecutor action. Texas DPS links qualifying fingerprint and disposition reports to the state identity record. Each source can use a different charge label because police classify first, prosecutors may refile, and courts dispose the filed allegation.
- Arrest report
- The creating agency's account of the custody event, alleged offense, and probable-cause facts.
- Booking record
- The sheriff's intake and custody entry, including booking time, charge, bond, and release status.
- Court case
- The clerk's file for the charge actually filed, with docket events and final outcome.
- DPS history
- The fingerprint-linked state record and the smaller public conviction or deferred-adjudication subset.
Note: Matching one event across sources often requires the agency, date, charge, booking number, and court case number.
How to Look Up Collin County Arrests
The best first channel depends on how recent the event is. The Sheriff's official services gateway routes readers to arrests and releases, inmate information, court information, warrants, VINE, and public records. Its public resources page adds alerts, victim services, registry help, and the crime map. Use several channels when a person has left custody or the arresting agency was a city department.
- Search the official Collin County Arrests & Releases Report for an event from the last week, then check the inmate roster for current custody or a release within the last 24 hours.
- Request the incident or arrest report from the agency that made the arrest. Use McKinney P2C for MPD arrests and its daily bulletin; use each other city police department's official records route.
- Check Collin County court records after filing. Felony cases go to the District Clerk, while Class A and B misdemeanors go to County Clerk criminal staff.
- For sheriff-created material, use the online Open Records Request Portal, write to the sheriff, visit the public lobby, or call Records and Warrants at 972-547-5133.
- For review of your own identity-based Texas record, follow the DPS fingerprint process. The paid CRS public name search has a narrower conviction and deferred-adjudication scope.
Provide an offense number, call number, jailing date, incident location, involved-party name, and date range when known. A formal request must describe an existing record. The Texas Public Information Act does not require an office to create a report, answer legal questions, or perform research.
Collin County Arrest Booking
The Collin County Detention Facility is at 4300 Community Avenue, McKinney, Texas 75071. The direct-supervision facility opened in March 1994. At intake, staff verify legal authority and identity, inventory property, conduct medical and safety screening, capture fingerprints and a booking image, enter charges and warrants, and classify custody needs. The sheriff's custodian and subpoena directory confirms that inmate and law-enforcement records have distinct custodians at the same campus. A magistrate addresses probable cause and bond before the person is housed or released under lawful conditions.
The Sheriff's official history page supplied the image of the law-enforcement and detention complex below.
The plaza separates the sheriff building from detention, a useful physical reminder that law-enforcement reports and custody records have distinct custodians even at one address.

What an Arrest Record Shows
A Collin County arrest record can combine agency facts with booking facts, but the public copy may redact protected data. The core identifiers help readers connect the custody event to the correct report and later court case. Bond data must be read per charge because other holds can prevent release.
| Arrest Details | Date, time, location, arresting agency, officer, offense number, and warrant or warrantless basis when public. |
|---|---|
| Probable Cause | The agency narrative and alleged offense, subject to active-case, victim, juvenile, and informant protections. |
| Booking Number | The identifier used to locate the jail intake and connect it to custody records. |
| Charge & Court | The intake charge, offense code, linked court or case, and later filed case when available. |
| Bond | Amount, type, and status by charge; another hold or charge may still block release. |
| Booking Image | A custody artifact that may appear in the county interface or be requested from the sheriff for the published $5 fee. |
| Custody & Release | Holding facility, current status, booking time, and release date when shown. |
Medical details, classification, protective-custody status, complete birth dates, and protected victim data should not be expected in the public view.
Collin County Arrest Agency Routes
Police reports stay with the agency that created them. Plano Police routes requests through its transparency and city records channel. McKinney Police offers P2C for public reports, its daily bulletin, arrests, and local warrants. Frisco Police accepts written public-record requests. The county public-information office is not a substitute for these city custodians.
| Agency | Official route | Contact detail |
|---|---|---|
| Collin County Sheriff | Open Records Portal or written request | 4300 Community Ave.; 972-547-5133 |
| Plano Police | Police Transparency, then Request Open Records | Use the current city records portal |

| Frisco Police | Written police public-record request | 7200 Stonebrook Pkwy.; 972-292-6000; fax 972-292-6075 |
| Constables 1 through 4 | Contact the creating precinct office | County directory lines: 972-548-4419, 972-547-1860, 972-881-3070, 972-731-7320 |
Other city, campus, and school police records likewise remain with their creating office. The county portal may add jail or court data only when the event leads to county booking or filing.
Recent Arrests and Booking Logs
Collin County's Arrests & Releases Report reaches back up to one week. The jail roster has a different window: current inmates and people released within the prior 24 hours. The first tool helps reconstruct a short arrest timeline. The second answers whether a person is in the county jail now or just left. Neither is a permanent Collin County arrest-history archive.
A person can disappear from the roster after release or transfer while other records remain. For an older event, request the arrest report, search the court index, and use DPS channels according to scope. McKinney P2C also supplies city-specific arrest and bulletin data, but it cannot establish a countywide result. No-result screens may reflect name variation, a date cutoff, a different jail, a sealed record, or a delay.
Note: The one-week report and 24-hour release view serve different tasks, and neither proves a complete Collin County arrest history.
Collin County Arrest Record Fees
Sheriff records use a product-specific schedule. The office lists $1 for a 911 recording, certified copy, or inmate visitor log; $3 for a call-for-service report; $5 for crime-scene photos, an offense or media report, a booking image, or a records search; $6 for an accident report; and $10 per body-camera recording plus $1 per minute for review or redaction. Supplying the offense number, call number, or jailing date avoids the listed $5 search fee.
The Sheriff's official fee page is shown in the source image below.
These sheriff fees should not be blended with clerk copy charges or the county policy for digital records already available without charge.
Collin County Arrest Custody Transfer
The county roster covers the adult jail, not state prison or federal custody. After transfer, use the Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmate channels. If no SID or TDCJ number is known, the telephone route requires an exact date of birth. TDCJ custody and parole notifications use IVSS, which is distinct from the county jail's VINE service. The TDCJ Parole Division supervises parole in the field, while county CSCD handles community supervision.
Federal custody has another locator. The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator searches by name or BOP, FBI, INS, or DCDC number. Its official interface is shown next.
A federal locator result does not replace the local arrest report or the Eastern District of Texas court docket. It only answers the federal custody layer. The Sheriff's mobile app and tip411 tools provide alerts and links to services, but the Sheriff's current materials do not establish an app-only Collin County jail search.
Arrests vs Convictions
Arrests and convictions come from different decisions. An officer makes an arrest based on legal authority and probable cause. A booking records custody. A prosecutor then decides what, if anything, to file, and a court resolves the filed case. A dismissal does not by itself erase the police or booking record. Texas expunction or nondisclosure requires a separate, fact-specific legal process.
| Point | Arrest record | Conviction record |
|---|---|---|
| Created by | Arresting agency and jail | Court, then reported to DPS |
| Shows | An allegation, custody, charge, and bond | A filed case ending in a finding of guilt |
| Primary source | Agency report and booking system | Clerk judgment and DPS disseminable record |
| Possible outcome | Release, no filing, dismissal, or later case | Sentence, supervision, appeal, or lawful restriction |
Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and a booking charge may change or never become a filed Collin County case.
